A lot of dishes are cooked with a spice mix, called bumbu. There are a lot of variations, but usually contain shrimp paste, chillies, etc.
You need:
150 gr shallots
50 gr garlic
50 gr red chili
30 gr fresh ginger
15 gr turmeric
30 gr galangal
10 gr shrimp paste
30 ml oil

Mix it all in a food processor until smooth.
