Whole30: Day 12

The Whole30 "hump" is getting closer, although that actually sounds a bit negative. It doesn't feel like a task or a challenge. The only reason why it's so top of mind, is that I'm writing this blog, so I'm a bit more aware of the timeline than usual. All of my writing so far have been about my experiences, but my SO is also in this Whole30 journey, so I'm planning to do a little interview to find out more :-)

First meal of the day, was fried eggs with sweet potato, (I boiled some sweet potato earlier in the week) 1/4 avocado & bacon. Our favorite side of coconut cream, blueberries, fig & almonds. Over the weekend, I made some cinnamon squares, which technically could be not allowed on the Whole30, but since we never have cereal anyways, we decided this was ok to have every now and then.

The next meal was just an odd collection of foods to say the least, left-over cauliflower, broccoli, carrot, bell peppers, sweet potato, bacon, salami, chicken & a hard boiled egg. Right.

Pre work out I had a banana and a few walnuts, and then I again blasted through a wod, it's incredible how my strength has gone up in the last few days! I posted a question about this on the Whole30 forum, and got some good responses.

Afterwards I had a few dried apricots and a boiled egg.

Then for the real challenge; we made reservations at Mi Sueño, a Argentinian restaurant here in Amsterdam, that is getting very good reviews about their meats. Of course you'll never know beforehand how a meal is prepared, but the menu was elaborate enough to make the right choices.

As a starter we opted for a spicy grilled chicken salad and a avocado and heart of palm salad. There was a dressing on it, but that was a vinaigrette with oil.

Main course was a tenderloin (super tender!!) for me and spare ribs (800 grams!) for my SO, but we realized that the ribs might have a non compliant marinade, but it was delicious nonetheless.

very tender tenderloin
A salad from the salad bar and a side of grilled vegetables completed the meal. Unfortunately just 1 picture, since the restaurant was a bit dark, will do a better job next time!

It's tricky going out for dinner, since you never fully know what ingredients are used, but a steak house or fish restaurant are probably your safest choices. Also we always like to enjoy a glass (ok, bottle) of wine when dining out, so drinking water seemed a bit, well, sad.

Either way, if you are ever looking for a good steak restaurant, I highly recommend Mi Sueño, not fancy, but a busy, bustling place with great staff and most important, really good food!
