It might be me, but when you first go to the website it can be a bit confusing, especially if you've never eaten or even heard of Paleo before. If you are a strict Paleo eater, this could possibly be quite simple, you just continue as you were going, but perhaps leaving a few things out like honey, stevia or other "natural" sweeteners. Paleo-fied food is also a no-no.
For me it will be a bit more challenging, since I do eat dairy (full-fat) enjoy my chocolate, wine and other alcoholic beverages, plus I allowed peanuts back in as well. For the last while, I noticed that I became more flexible with certain foods, and I know it works better for me to be "strict", than to use "moderation".
But I have been used to eating Paleo for over a year now, so I expect to make the transition more easily.
Now, what is Whole30 exactly?
Basically, eliminate all of the following foods:
- Grains (like rice, wheat, corn)
- Alcohol
- Dairy
- Legumes (except "pod" beans)
- Sugar, whether real or artificial (including honey)
- White potatoes
- Additives: MSG, carageenan & sulfites
For the full, printable version, go here.
To make sure you make the right food choices, you can download a few free pdf documents to help you on you way here.
Also, the resources page here will answer any questions you might have, or provide helpful information as you go allong.
I found it already useful to sign up for the forum, where you can ask questions or look up recipes, meal plans, etc. Of course you can also purchase both books "It starts with Food" & "Well Fed"
First of all, I'm going to start on January 7th, together with my partner. Don't ask why the 7th, we just picked it, but you can start the Whole30 any day of the year, you just need to be committed to it and motivated.
During those 30 days I will follow the guidelines of course, but also post my meals on this blog & Pinterest day by day, so it might helpful and perhaps even inspiring to others!
Honestly I can say, that I am really looking forward to it, my only weakness might be the chocolate... But then again, it's only 30 days.
